Caleb was all smiles at his 9 Month session! He had the cutest outfits and I loved the lumberjack look. :) Before they left we went to put the next session on the books and his mom and I quickly decided we wanted to ignore the fact that the next time I will see them will be for his 1 year. I know I say it all the time, but it really happens way too fast. I have to say, I can't wait for the smash cake though! :) See Caleb at 9 months!

It was so great seeing Thomas and his family Saturday. He is growing like a weed and looking more and more like a Florida. There is no question that those genes run strong. The session went super smoothly all because I had such great help in the studio. Jessica, her mom, and Anne Marie all jumped in and got some great smiles out of Thomas, but I must give a huge shout out to Big Sis Anne Maire for providing such great music and dance moves. Honestly, I have no clue where to begin. I have done several sessions with this family over the past year, and their creative talents have always amazed me. All of our previous shoots have been tons of fun. So, I expected nothing less from Katy's wedding and was eager to see their vision. I didn't know many details other than it was going to have a country chic vibe with tons of DIY touches.

We started the session at Marathon Village, where their reception was being held. When I walked in, my jaw literally dropped. It was pure wedding yumminess! :) Candles filled the room with burlap cloths adorning the tables. Vintage boxes and signs were placed all around, and the flowers were gorgeous!

Katy put on her beautiful dress. Then, her and Ryan had their special moment at the top of the stairs before we ventured out for some photos. The shots came out fabulous. Marathon Village has tons of character, and the weather was gorgeous. Next, we headed to the site of their ceremony, Eastwood Church. It was a unique and older church in East Nashville. The ceremony was very sweet. Afterward, everyone headed to Marathon Village for the reception.

Seeing it lit up made my jaw drop again! I love the overlook of Nashville through the window. It was such a great atmosphere for the reception! The night was full of laughter, delicious food, and tons of dancing. It was more spectacular than I could have ever imagined. Seeing the love Katy and Ryan share be bonded in holy matrimony was so very special.

K & R: I will always treasure being a part of your special day. I wish you all the happiness the world has to give, and hope you enjoy your honeymoon in Mexico!

Stevie and Joe wed at the Bell Buckle United Methodist Church yesterday and had their reception at the Walking Horse Hotel in Wartrace. Despite the cold, the day was beautiful and I loved sharing in their special time. Sunday was a beautiful day to photograph two sweet families. The Tiptons' are on the left, and the Carver's are on the right. The little ones definitely gave me a run for my money, but I had a lot of fun chasing them around Canonsburg. Ryan was a big fan of the train and Addison was all about the water. She even dipped her little feet in for a while. They are all super cute, and I love love love seeing cousins that are close. I cherish the fact that I was so close to mine growing up. Colby, Shanna, and their son Benjamin met me at Canonsburg last week for a family session. We had a lot of fun together and we even threw in some head shots for their business, Faithful Fitness. The photo session was a change of pace for us since Colby and Shanna are typically the ones doing the instructing. Colby is a fitness trainer and Shanna is a pilates instructor. They just moved into a great facility off Park Place and are settling in very nicely. I appreciate how great these two are at their jobs, but more importantly there faith and trust in the Lord is absolutely beautiful. I love how they bring that faith and love for God into everything they do. I am so glad I got to photograph their beautiful family. They're going to have to watch out because that Benjamin is going to be a heart breaker! Thanks again guys and I will see you next week!

October 8th was a perfect fall day for two wonderful people to wed. I was so honored to participate in Angelique and Mark's special day. The ceremony began at two o'clock at St. Rose Catholic Church in Murfreesboro and their reception followed in Lascassas at the beautiful Messick Farm. It truly was a gorgeous fall day and to top it off the couple was surrounded by their closest friends and family as they celebrated their joyous occasion. Their day was filled with sweet touches throughout. The ceremony was unbelievably sweet and sacred and before they entered into the reception, Mark's parents adorned their necks with traditional Hawaiian wedding leis. Mark's was a maile style and Angelique's was made from the fragrant tuberose. It was so sweet to watch the leis being placed on their necks signifying love and respect for the two. Congrats again Angelique and Mark! May your lives be filled with joy and love always and forever.

When Lawrence and I started brainstorming on a location for his shoot I kept trying to come up with somewhere colorful and fun to match his personality. I just so happened to remember the State Fair was going on. Lawrence jumped at the idea and off we went yesterday on a fun filled adventure. I cannot believe it has been a year already! Time really does fly by with these little ones' first years. I have had an absolute blast working with Annie and her family. We have so much fun together, and they always have the most creative ideas and props to add to the session. I will admit that I did a little begging yesterday for the photo sessions of Miss Annie to continue. After viewing the images from yesterday's shoot I will admit that I plan to do A LOT more begging! I simply do NOT want this first year to end and you will see for yourself how absolutely A-DOR-A-BLE this little lady is!

Annie, Lena (her mom), Shelia (her grandmother), and her Aunt Katie met me yesterday afternoon in downtown Bell Buckle. I love love love that town! It is so super quaint and cute! I meet the most wonderful down-home loving and trusting people every time I'm there. It reminds me of my hometown. We lost the sun when we arrived, but found tons of cute places to shoot. So... you can't have a year session without CAKE! You will notice there is a lot of cake missing in the final picture. In case you are wondering if Miss Annie managed to gobble down that much cake.. I will guiltily admit that she had four willing "helpers" encouraging her to dig in. I don't know about you, but I LOVE shoots that end with strawberry cake!

Ava is already 4 months old! She didn't want to give us too many smiles, but the session went great. Ava and her parents have a beautiful old farm house located in Readyville. The land is gorgeous and they have a super cool old building that sits on the property. It made for a great backdrop and Ava's grandparents, who are antique dealers, were so kind to bring over a couple of props for us to use. Check out this lovely southern style shoot!

I am beyond excited to announce that I will have a space on the square! You will be able to find Joy Chambers Photography in the building that houses Kerried Away Couture and Paige's Pantry. I will have an area in their store that will allow for client meetings, product display, and studio space. Both businesses are owned and operated by fantastic women and I am so excited to be connected with the two. I am looking forward to all the new and exciting things that will take place with this step. Truly, I am blessed beyond measure with great family, friends, and clients. Picture Perfect Friday

Another late post this week, however, this time I have a good excuse. I arrived home today from Centennial Hospital. My father underwent prostate surgery Thursday afternoon. We learned of his cancer a couple of months ago. After education and visiting numerous doctors, we came to the conclusion that surgery was his best option.

Tuesday evening the entire family went to my parents home for family time before the surgery. The weather outside was beautiful, with fall weather in the air. As I took pictures of everyone hanging out while we grilled, I asked my dad if I could make his surgery my Picture Perfect Friday.

Here it is...

Those of you who know my father can attest to his incredibility. Words really can't explain what a wonderful, smart, strong, hard working, caring, fair, serious, funny, charming, and loving man he is. I will refrain from being too mushy and explaining how much of a Daddy's girl I am, but I have to say I have never known another man like him. I am blessed beyond measure to have been raised by such wonderful parents and I cherish the strong relationship my father and I share. Although it has been an emotional and hard time, I am very thankful he let me document this journey. I can happily report that he made it through surgery well. He is now home and beginning the healing process. We will know for sure if the cancer was contained at his follow up visit next week, but the surgeon said he "visually" felt good about it. We are continuing to pray he is correct. Thank you to those who have reached out in prayer and support. Papa Slick is hanging in there and will be running a chainsaw, climbing a roof, or fixing something before long! :)

I tried to make the presurgery requirements humorous. My Dad called me when he pulled the bottle out of the fridge the next morning. "Poop your brains out??", he said. At least he laughed. :)

It was a rough night for him, but he was moving around a bit better today. I meant to snap a picture once we got him settled in at home this evening, but my tired mind forgot. The Florida's

Meet The Florida's! They have blessed my blog with their presence before, and it's always a good time working with them. I say that mostly because they are my family and I have to. Just kidding guys!!! :)

On a serious note, this family is incredible. Their love for each other is amazing, and I feel so lucky to be a part of that love. Last week, I read a phrase that caught my attention. It said cousins are the first friends most people ever have as children. This was so very true for us. We grew up in Lascassas, a small community where everyone looked out for one another. Our families all lived very close and we were always together. It was a childhood to cherish for sure. I hope my children will have cousins to grow up with the way we did.

My uncle called me and asked if I would photograph the family when Jesse, Katie, and the girls came to visit. I immediately got excited, because they are the ONLY ones who live away and I hadn't seen Charis since she was one month old. (Just thought I would throw that out there as encouragement for you guys to move back sometime soon. hehe )

Anyway, the entire family had lunch together on Sunday, and we met up at Canonsburg for a little photo session afterwords. We had SO much fun! For those of you who know my Uncle Edwin, we can have a private viewing of his attempt at modeling, but for now enjoy this beautiful family!

Hello all! Happy Friday! I don't know if you guys feel the same, but my week flew by! It was a productive week for me though. I am in the process of revamping Joy Dement Photography. New things will be offered and I am changing around some things as well, so stay tuned for more details on that. As for Picture Perfect Friday, I have already benefited from starting this little project. Wednesday evening my husband and I had to go grocery shopping. We started at The Boulevard for a quick dinner before we headed to the store. It was our first time going there and I must say the food was pretty good and the service even better. While we were enjoying dinner a massive electrical storm started brewing. We arrived at the grocery store just in time for the rain to begin. We did our shopping, loaded up the car, and headed home. HOLY COW! We couldn't get over the amount of lightning that filled the sky. We both said to one another that we had never witnessed anything quite like it before. It was truly amazing and I kept saying, " Aw, I wish I had my camera". Jeremy asked me if I had ever photographed lightning and when I answered no I immediately knew who was going to be unloading the groceries by themselves. :) I love you for doing that hun! :) I got out a tad too late. The sky was still very active, but I only witnessed two strikes upon arriving at the square. I caught one of them!

As I stood on the street waiting for another strike I thought of how much I enjoyed living in Murfressboro. We have really had a good summer and enjoyed more of the city than we typically do. With great things like Saturday Market, Friday Night Live, and The Greenery on the Square (whose grand opening I am getting ready to attend) I can't help but feel that The 'Boro is headed in a great direction. It was around that realization that I saw a car coming around the square and noticed I had my 'Love Your City' shirt on. How fitting, right? Pure coincidence..I promise. I quickly shot a self portrait using the lights on the car to add affect and headed home to a stocked fridge and a loving husband. What a great Wednesday! Meet my sweet sweet Sister-in-law. I am going to start off by saying I am blessed to have this girl in my life. She is the sweetest most responsible, smart, witty teenager I have ever met and after yesterday's shoot I have decided she should probably take up modeling. ;) Caitlin is a senior this year at Cascade and we have been chatting recently about what to do for her senior portraits. She willingly gave me total creative control, which I LOVED! After arriving at my place yesterday afternoon, we went through some outfits I had pulled, did her make-up and headed out for some fun. Picture Perfect Friday

Happy Friday Everyone! I have taken notice within the past month that I have stopped shooting for myself. I say that because I am shooting, but I am not finding myself grabbing the camera for moments that are happening in my life. So, I have been playing around with an idea today... Picture Perfect Friday. I am going to try to post a picture each Friday of something personal. Whether it be of my family, the new stove I got last week, or the gorgeous light dancing across the fog that I noticed three different mornings and again, regretfully, didn't get my camera. So, I thought if I made a pact to post every week it may help me get back into the swing of picking up the camera more for personal work. I will start this Friday with family. :)

A couple of weeks ago I took my niece's for a fun filled day before the oldest started back to school. We were upstairs in my office playing around and I grabbed my camera. I KNOW I am very biased, but aren't they the sweetest.!?! Makenna's laugh is infectious and Ramsey's mysterious eyes are so captivating. I love those two little girls more than I could ever put into words. Enjoy the weekend with your family if you can and I will be back again on a personal note next Friday. ;)

Lakeshia & Andrell ~Wedding Photography Murfreesboro, TN~

Lakeshia and Andrell were married in Murfreesboro at Carriage Lane this past Saturday. The more I get to know these two the more I fall in love with them. Lakeshia is so unbelievable kind and beautiful and Andrell is one of the softest spoken grooms I have ever photographed. His love for Lakeshia is clearly seen in the way he looks at her. My mom has always said to me that actions speak louder than words and although I am sure Andrell speaks more when he doesn't have a camera shoved in his face, I couldn't help but notice the love in his eyes when he looked at his bride. Truly touching. Lakeshia and Andrell not only became man and wife on Saturday, but they became a family. Lakeshia gave Andrell's two daughters each a ring as she promised to always be there for them and AJ, their son, won my heart over. (If you ever need a babysitter guys..you know who to call! ) Their friends and family were all so sweet. Their faith in God and celebration of this couple absolutely made my Saturday. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my sessions with Miss Annie Louise! Her mom, Lena, always has the cutest clothes and the funnest ideas. Today we met at Canonsburg for a morning session. The rain has kept us from meeting for her 9 month session lately, but today we lucked out and it was gorgeous! I LOVE this! This was Lena's and her sister's bathing suit when they were babies. Too stinking cute!

I am extremely excited to introduce the newest addition to our family! Lily Kate entered the world on May 12, 2011, allowing just enough time for her mommy to rest and make it to my wedding on the 21st. Talk about a tough mama! Her sweet brother, Major, was in the wedding but we had a hard time getting him to join in on her newborn session. We got his attention for a second and he gave her love. It's too sweet! He just lays his head to hers. Next time I bet he will have learned how to give kisses, however, he was not interested in learning Saturday. He had better things to do! Playing with cars is way more fun. :) This is going to be an exciting baby's first year so be sure and stay tuned!

I got to spend Saturday morning getting to know this adorable guy and his parents. Katherine and Chris welcomed little Caleb on May 12, 2011. The session went very smoothly. Caleb was unbelievably content the whole time which allowed for some adorable shots. And Baby, their schnauzer, was all about me until I started pulling out my gear. She came back around though and we ended up getting a cute family portrait. I am super excited to work with this family over the next year! I was so excited when my sweet sister-in-law called to see if I could photograph her niece's first year. Ava was welcomed into the world on April 19th by two wonderful parents, Kelly and Lee . She gave everyone a little health scare at first, but she is doing just fine now. I am looking forward to watching this little one grow over the next year. Neely + Stevie= A Downtown Wedding

Neely and Stevie said their I Do's yesterday in downtown Murfreesboro. The sweet ceremony was held in front of the courthouse and Neely arrived with her father, Steve, in a horse drawn carriage. The Reception was held downtown as well at Bungalow Events. I was honored to cover this wedding not only because Neely and Stevie are such an awesome couple, but Neely and I go way back. Grammar school to be exact. It is always so much fun to cover a friends wedding, especially one you have so much history with! Most of the bridesmaids and groomsmen were my classmates, which made calling role super easy and the fact that they are all so much fun made by job a breeze. ;) Neely was absolutely stunning and Stevie was looking mighty spiffy himself. Check out all the great photos from the day. It was truly a super fun wedding! Thanks Neely and Stevie for allowing me to be a part of your special day. Hope you are having a blast on your honeymoon!

The love in his mother's eyes melts my heart...

As you will see the father-daughter dance was a bit different. Neely had told me at our last meeting that she had a surprise for her Dad during their dance. She explained that they share the same taste in whiskey and thought it would be funny to cut mid song from "Soulshine" by the Allman Brothers to "Whiskey girl" by Toby Keith. Her best friend and matron of honor, Natalie, came out and poured both the bride and her Dad a shot of Jack Daniels. Steve's expression was priceless!

I was able to steal the couple away from the reception for a quick bit...

The night was filled with laughter, love, and dancing! This crew knew how to throw down!

Meagan+Chris= A Family Wedding

I had the pleasure of particpating in Meagan and Chris's wedding on April 3, 2011. Despite the wind that day the weather was absoultely beautiful, just like this family!

Everyone gathered at Gateway Island Park in Murfreesboro. The sweet couple were surrounded by their closest friends and family. There were so many special moments shared between Chris and Meagan, but the sweetest of all was when they performed the sand ceremony with Chris's daughter, Lily. As the three poured in the sands, the individual colors created a beautiful masterpiece of love and respect. Just as it would be impossible to separate the sands once poured, their union made them inseparable as well. It truly was a beautiful moment to witness. Joy + Zach = A Military Wedding

Joy Ash and Zach Gilliam said their I Do's on April 2, 2011. The ceremony was held at the beautiful First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro. Joy was escorted down the aisle by her father, Don Ash, as the sound of bagpipes filled the air. The two exchanged vows with all of their family and friends there supporting them. As they were introduced as husband and wife, Zach's Marine brothers lined the aisle and performed the Arch of Swords Ceremony. It was a first for me and I must say it was nothing short from spectacular!

The reception was held at Stones River Country Club. The food stations were a hit and Super T  kept the party going all night! Check out all of the fun photos from the day and see how awesome this wedding was for yourself!

A huge thanks goes out to my assistant Libby for being such a great help and to the Ash family for allowing me to participate in such a wonderful and special time in their family's life. Hope you enjoy the sneak peek guys! 

Meet Miss Elise!

The weather was beautiful today! The sun was shining and little Elise was full of smiles! Meredith+Chris = A Loveless Barn Wedding

Where to start!?!... I do not believe I will be able to put into words how fun, beautiful, dazzling, charming, emotional, gorgeous, graceful, and aspiring this wedding was. I started my day off with a good cry after being told the story behind the necklace the bride was given by her mother to wear on her special day. (Full story and pics will be posted on later blog). This was followed by a full day of laughter, tears, great locations, and much needed dancing! Colleen+John * Murfreesboro Wedding Photography*

Happy Monday everyone! I know in my last post I said that I would have Colleen and John's wedding pictures up within the week, but it has almost been a month since I last blogged. Not only am I terrible at blogging, something I promised myself again over the weekend I was going to get better at, but also the past month has been a bit crazy. To quickly fill you in, the day of Colleen and John's wedding I arrived at the church and began unloading my equipment. I had not even made my second trip back to the car when my cell phone rang. It was my neighbor who with panic in her voice said, " Your backdoor was just kicked in by a robber". Well, as you can imagine I got that terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach as she told me what was happening. As she explained how the events had unfolded I can honestly say I wasn't so much worried about my belongings as much as I was about my precious babies, Kiya and Delilah. Yes, they are dogs. They are actually laying at my feet cowering at the thunder storm as I type. The police had been called to the scene, but they instructed that no one was to enter the home until they arrived. My fiance was the second person to get to the house and he said he immediately tried to yell for the dogs but didn't hear a sound. Well, if you know us or our dogs you know that is COMPLETELY unlike them, so then the worry was magnified. I will not get into the delayed response time from police... That is for another blog, however, more than 30 minutes had passed before I got the call back that everything was okay. I have encountered many stresses while shooting weddings, but this was a first for sure. So, to somewhat excuse my lack of blogging, I will say that we have made many changes around the house, attended a neighborhood watch meeting, and are a bit more prepared (if you can be) for an incident such as this. I apologize for the delay in posts, but aim to do much better in the future. For now, check out some pictures from Colleen and John's wedding! It was truly a beautiful day for a lovely couple to commit their lives to one another. Colleen is a dear friend of mine and I feel so fortunate I got to capture her special day. Their ceremony was so incredibly sweet and I must admit I shed a few tears while they exchanged their vows ( another first for me). It could have been the stress from the morning, but I honestly feel it was pure happiness for this beautiful couple. I wish you both the best and look forward to sharing in your wonderful journey as you build your new life together. Congrats again John and Colleen!

LiL' Hot Mess!

I have quite possibly found my favorite 2 year old! It's safe to say, since my sweet niece will be turning 3 in a couple of weeks. :) Either way, this little hot mess (as they call her) is absolutely AdorAble!! Her name is Mallory. Her parents, Todd and Shelby, met me at the park on Sunday. The weather was beautiful and Mallory greeted me with the most precious hug. I knew it was going to be a good shoot! I LOVE maternity shoots! There is something so cute about round bellies! Yesterday I met up with a high school friend, Allison, and her husband, Stephen. Allison absolutely hates having her picture taken, as a lot of people do. I promised her I would only post the ones of her cute belly, but after getting home and sorting through.. I just couldn't keep my promise. Sorry Allison!!.. If you insist they come down then call me, but I really feel we got some adorable shots! Hope you enjoy your sneak peek! David - Senior Portraits

This is one talented Senior. He plays guitar, sings, acts, and there's no telling what else! I met David while shooting his girlfriend's senior portraits in July. At that time he was trying out for American Idol, and after the shoot, they were driving to Nashville to wait in line. Needless to say, when I got the call from his mother about the portraits last month I was very eager to hear how everything was going for him. Although, the Idol missed out on one talented young man, I am positive he is going to make it big before it is all said and done. I met this lovely family in Lascassas at their family farm on Sunday. I loved loved loved this location! For those of you who know me personally, know I grew up in Lascassas. It is a place I hold dear to my heart and I can remember going back on this very farm to swim in the river as a child. Being out there again brought back so many fun memories! The weather tried very hard to blow us away, but we stuck through and got some great shots. Check them out!

This tutu was made by Annie's mother and grandmother. They are so crafty! I fell in love with the mobile in Annie's room. I had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours with Dr. Benjamin Jamison, DDS and his staff in the park last week. Which was odd, because normally my time with them is spent in the dentist chair. Our goal at the shoot was to get head shots for their up and coming website. I hope they agree with me because I feel we were extremely successful. I had so much fun working with them on this shoot. They are all full of personality and spunk! They really make a great team and Dr. Jamison is the sweetest most attentive dentist you can find. Not only is he good at his profession, but I can attest that he cares for more than just his patients teeth. Meet Remi...

If you stop by Gateway Mechanical on Lascasasas Pike you are likely to be greeted by this adorable pup. He spends most of his day there with his owner and President of the company, Jeff. I had the pleasure of taking Remi for the morning to capture him in his youth. My labrador, Kiya, is turning twelve this December and I had honestly forgotten what it was like to have a puppy around. Remi and I had a blast! It was one of those shoots that took patience, however, during it I thought several times how lucky I am to have such an awesome job. I feel very fortunate to be doing what I love and throwing another love into the mix (dogs) made it an even better work day! Check out how cute this little guy is and keep your eyes peeled for him in the future. He may become to Gateway what the Gecko is to Geico! ;)

Most of my clients don't eat the backdrop when they are tired of shooting. Remi, however, got his point across!

Jen and Dan Wedding 10-10-10

This DIY wedding took place at Dan's family home in Eagelville, TN. From the fantastic date to the down home country feel, this wedding couldn't have been any more perfect.

My favorite ceremony shot! Look how happy in love she is!

Jen made her cake, bridesmaid dresses, hair pieces, and much much more. She is one talented lady and those DIY touches made their wedding so unique and special!

My favorite part of the whole day was Dan and Jen's first dance. They danced to Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. I am a huge fan of that song and it was a fantastic way to get the party started!

I loved that they asked everyone to join in at the end of the song. It was unbelievably heartwarming to see their closest friends and family dance around them screaming at the top of their lungs that, "Home is wherever I'm with you!". It was incredibly beautiful and another great touch added to a spectacular day.

Congratulations again Jen and Dan! I am so very honored I got to be a part of your special day and I hope you enjoy the sneak peek! :)

The First Mini Session- HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Here are the details about the Halloween Session:

Your session: We will have 20 minutes together as I photograph your child and/or family at an outdoor location.

3 - 6 pm

Photographer's choice. I suspect it will be at Oakland's Mansion or Nearby Outdoor Location TBA.

Cost: $100.00 - There will be a $50.00 down payment that is due at the time of booking to secure your spot.

Previews: A sneak peek of your session will be posted on my blog within 7 days of the shoot. Your online gallery with 10-20 images will be available to view on Pictage's website within two weeks after the session. Prints can be ordered from Pictage or you can print them at any lab of your choice since a High Resolution Disk with the 10-20 images will be mailed to your home along with an unlimited reprint rights release. This gives you the ability to post and print the images however you wish.

A little advice...
Avoid dressing the family in matching “uniforms”. Coordinated looks for families create a much more pleasing photograph. Try choosing a unifying color mixed with neutrals in various ways to mix things up, but still give your family continuity.
Use patterns, textures and layers to add visual interest. Textured fabrics, such as denim, cable knits, linen, and corduroy, photograph beautifully. Layers can be added and removed to create different looks in minimal time.
